Generals Game Day Notes

November 29, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release

GREENSBORO GENERALS

The Generals defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths 2-1 last night at the Coliseum. Greensboro fell behind 1-0 midway through the first period on a Sean McAslan score, but it would be the only goal Jamie Hodson would allow all night. The Generals evened the score before the end of the period on a Vlad Serov power play score. Greensboro took the lead for good in the final minute of the second period on a goal by Matt Turek, and Hodson made it stand up from there. Hodson saved 31 of 32 shots on the night, including 16 in the final period and an incredible blocker save with 1.8 seconds left to preserve the victory.

SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS

The Stingrays fell to the Greenville Grrrowl 4-3 on Wednesday night in their previous game. South Carolina took a 1-0 lead into the locker room on a Brad Williamson score in the first period. However, Greenville replied with two unanswered goals in the second period to take the lead going into the third period. The Stingrays tied the game at both 2-2 and 3-3 on goals from Dave Seitz and Aaron Schneekloth, but the Grrrowl earned the victory on a goal from Judd Medak with just 3:12 remaining. Penalties were an issue for the Stingrays, allowing three power play goals in twelve shorthanded situations.

ABOUT THE GAME

This is the first of three meetings between the Generals and Stingrays. Greensboro and South Carolina squared off three times last year, with the Generals going 0-2-1 against them. Tonight's game marks the first time Generals head coach Rick Adduono faces the team he directed for the last four years, leading them to the Kelly Cup in 2001 and also winning the cup as a Stingrays' assistant coach in 1997. Don't forget fans, you can also tune into all home games in the Coliseum on closed circuit radio (96.5 FM), with Arley Johnson handling the play-by-play. You can also call Arley with questions on the air between periods at 275-9738.

NEXT HOME GAME: The Generals embark on a four-game road trip starting tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Johnstown Chiefs. The other three games of the trip are at the Reading Royals on Tuesday night, at the Richmond Renegades on Thursday, and at the Charlotte Checkers next Saturday. Greensboro does not come back to the Coliseum until hosting the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies on Wednesday, December 11 at 7:00. All games can be heard on WPET 950-AM.

THE FRONT LINE: The Greensboro Generals coaches show The Front Line will not air this Monday night, as the Generals will be traveling that evening. The Front Line will return to Jack Astor's on High Point Road next Monday from 6:00 – 7:00.
