Generals win in shootout 2-1

GREENSBORO -- The Greensboro Generals earned two points in dramatic fashion, as Generals coach Rick Adduono faced his former South Carolina Stingrays (13-7-1). The Generals (11-5-3) recorded a 2-1 shootout victory, in front of 3,167 in attendance.

A scoreless first period for both teams, the Stingrays would get on the board first with a Rod Taylor goal at the 7:29 mark of the second period. Trailing 1-0 entering the third period, the Generals regained momentum with a Vlad Serov goal, with just 2:35 remaining in the third.

In the shootout, the Stingrays would strke first with a made goal by Dave Seitz. On back-to-back made goals by the Stingrays Curtis Huppe and the Generals Vlad Serov, the Generals would trail 2-1 in the shootout. Greensboro would knot the score at 2-2 with a made goal by Jay Murphy, setting up the dramatic conclusion, as both goalies would stop six consecutive shots. On the 10th attempt of the shootout, Daniel Berthiaume would stop Brad Williamson, and leave the newest member of the Generals with an attempt to win the game. Rod Aldoff, a defenseman which has been in Italy most of the season, would score the game-winner in his first appearance as a General.

Generals goalie Daniel Berthiaume (8-2-3) finished the game with 47 saves, and his counterpart Kirk Daubenspeck (12-5-1) of the Stingrays making 35 stops.

The Generals next face the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday. Following the Johnstown game, Greensboro will face be on the road to face the Reading Royals on December 3rd, Richmond Renegades December 5th, and the Charlotte Checkers on December 7th. The Generals will return home again on December 11th, where they face the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. All games can be heard on WPET 950-AM.
