Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads came out of the gate tonight with the fastest goal to start a game in team history and never looked back, handing the Long Beach Ice Dogs a second straight loss at the Bank of America Centre, 5-1. Rookie goaltender Scott Kabotoff stopped 25 of 26 shots to win his first start in a Steelheads uniform.

Idaho's Andrei Vasilyev won the opening face-off and passed to a streaking Jan Kopecky, who fought through two Long Beach defenders and put the puck past David Burleigh just 9 seconds into the game. The goal bettered the old record of :12 set by Adam Copeland on March 2, 2003 at San Diego.

The second period belonged to Idaho as they secured the win with four goals to Long Beach's one. Darrell Hay scored at 6:45 of the second, with Kopecky picking up his second point of the night on the assist. Martin Paquet tallied the Ice Dog's lone goal at 11:32, but after that it was all Idaho. Scott Burt put away his 14th of the season at 14:37 to make it 3-1 in favor of the Steelheads. Idaho defenseman Martin Vasut blasted one from just inside the blue line, beating Burleigh for his second of the year. The fifth and final goal for Idaho was by Dylan Gyori, his 12th of the year, on a beautiful feed from Adam Copeland. Gyori's power play wrister got past Burleigh on the short side.

The teams skated to a scoreless third period, with Idaho outshooting Long Beach 7-6 for a game total of 30-26. The teams conclude their three-game series Saturday night, the final game of Idaho's longest (eight games) homestand of the season.
