Checkers sign A.J. Walker, Lawson recalled by Hartford

(Charlotte, NC - Saturday, March 13) The Charlotte Checkers have signed forward A.J. Walker, and the Hartford Wolf Pack has recalled left wing Lucas Lawson. The moves are announced today by Checkers Head Coach and General Manager, Derek Wilkinson.

Walker will be in the Checkers lineup tonight when Charlotte hosts Roanoke at 7:30 p.m. at Cricket Arena. The Faribault, Minnesota native now lives in Charlotte after completing a four-year career of college hockey for Hockey East power Boston College. Walker was a member of the 2001 Boston College NCAA National Championship squad that beat North Dakota 3-2 in overtime in the championship final.

Lawson has played in 26 games for the Checkers this season scoring 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points and 10 penalty minutes. He has also played 19 games in the AHL for Hartford this season with one goal and two assists for three points and 21 penalty minutes.

The Checkers will close out a three-game homestand tonight at Cricket Arena and attempt to end a four-game slide when they'll host the Roanoke Express at 7:30 p.m. Tonight's game is also "Long Sleeve T-shirt Night" sponsored by Circle K. The first 1,500 youth, 14 years of age and under, will receive a free, Checkers log sleeve t-shirt compliments of Circle K.
