Augusta Lynx News Release

Despite a lack of scoring for 65 minutes of regulation time, Saturday night's 1-0 Lynx win in a shootout could not have been more exciting for the team season-high 4,267 fans in attendance at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Last time the two teams met, they combined for five power play goals on 12 chances in a 5-2 Lynx win. This game would be a different story, with the penalty killers writing the story. Lynx penalty killers tied a team record by not allowing a power play goal in their seventh straight game, as the Pride went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Meanwhile Augusta also went scoreless in seven chances with the power play during the game. Each team had several quality scoring chances during regulation, but both goaltenders played solid with help from their defense. Sebastien Laplante stopped 41 Lynx shots over the course of the contest, while Jason Saal turned aside 30 Pride chances. Despite the barrage of shots, neither regulation nor overtime would provide any scoring, and the game went to a shootout

Wes Goldie and Terry Marchant would score in the first round to even the shootout at one goal each. There would be no further scoring until Louis Goulet lit the lamp on Laplante in the fourth round to give Augusta the lead. The game came down to Saal vs. Eric Naud on the Pride's fifth shootout attempt, which Saal turned aside to give the Lynx the 1-0 win. For Saal, it is his second consecutive shutout, and extends his scoreless streak to 176:01, dating back to March 6th against the Columbus Cottonmouths. It also gives him four shutouts on the season, and 16 in his career, good for third all-time in the ECHL behind Marc Magliarditi (19) and Daniel Berthiaume (18). The streak is also the longest in team history, surpassing the previous mark set by Tom Draper from 2/22 – 2/27 of 2003, which lasted 123:02.

Augusta is right back to action on Sunday with a matinee offering against the Pensacola Ice Pilots. It's a Kids Day Sunday, and with every adult ticket purchased up to three children get in free! Bring the whole family out to enjoy an exciting day of Lynx Hockey! Game time is 4:05 pm, with pre-game coverage starting at 3:35 pm on FoxSports Radio 1340 AM with Tom Callahan.
