AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta Lynx defeated the Florence Pride 1-0 in a shootout Saturday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. Both teams had several good scoring chances in the first period, but both goaltenders, Augusta's Jason Saal and Florence's Sebastien Laplante stopped everything thrown their way. Laplante was especially strong in the closing 30 seconds of the period, as the Pride were unable to clear the puck, and the Lynx had five consecutive shots on goal.
It was much the same story in the second period, as again, neither team put anything on the scoreboard. Augusta had several quality scoring chances in the period, as the Lynx had five second-period power plays to the Pride's none, and outshot Florence 17-6, but again, Laplante was on top of his game, and did not let anything cross the line.
The game would head to overtime scoreless, with the Lynx holding a 38-28 shots on goal advantage. Neither team scored in the overtime period, sending the game to the shootout. In the shootout, the Lynx scored two goals on four opportunities, while the Pride scored once in five chances.
The Pride are back in action Sunday afternoon, hosting the Louisiana IceGators in a 2:30 p.m. matinee. It's the final Sunday Kid's Day of the season at the Lion's Den, with tickets for kids 12 and under available for just $2.50, and kids' meals are available for an additional $2.50. Tickets are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
