Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Tyler Masters stopped 36 shots and Garrett Prosofsky factored in all three goals as the Cincinnati Cyclones beat Alaska for the second straight time at Sullivan Arena, 3-1, before 4,904 Friday night.

Cincinnati scored inside the game's first minute, as Philip Lewandowski banged home his own rebound 59 seconds into the contest for a 1-0 lead. Prosofsky extended the margin to 2-0 by finishing off a beautiful give-and-go with Andrew Proskurnicki on a power play at 12:38. But with 2:44 left in the first period, Shane Palahicky put the Aces on the board by scoring his fourth goal of the season from in front despite having Cyclones defenseman Ryan Brindley draped all over him.

Lance Mayes made a number of key saves in the second period to keep Alaska within striking distance, then rarely saw the puck in the third, as the Aces outshot Cincinnati 16-3 in a furious attempt at scoring the equalizer. But Masters held sway, outdueling Mayes, who suffered the hard-luck loss despite turning aside 27 of 29 shots. He will start again for Alaska tomorrow. Prosofsky, who had four points (2g-2a) in Wednesday's 6-3 Cincinnati victory, scored an empty-netter with 32.1 seconds left in the third period to seal the win and give him seven points in the first two games of this three-game set.

Alaska's magic number for clinching the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division dropped to three games with Long Beach and Bakersfield both losing as well. The Aces, however, have lost five of their last six games at home and seven of nine overall to fall just six games over the .500 mark at 31-25-4, the closest that the team has been to the break-even point since Pearl Harbor Day.

Tomorrow night's regular season finale at home against the Cyclones starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI. If the season ended tomorrow, Alaska would return home for the third game of a best-of-five playoff series against Pacific Division leader San Diego on Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. Game Four, if necessary, would be played at 7:00 p.m. April 10.
