Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (32-23-10) defeated the Greenville Grrrowl (12-45-5) 5-4 Saturday night in front of 6,523 at TECO Arena. On Reggie Berg bobblehead night, it was Berg that would not disappoint as he provided a hat trick to help lead the Everblades to victory. The victory keeps Florida in sole possession of second place in the Southern Division.
Florida got off to a tough start when Greenville jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Bill Cass and Mark Concannon. Cass was actually awarded the goal that resulted when Jeff Maund attempted to pass the puck to Matt Pagnutti and the puck hit Pagnutti's skate and bounced into the empty Florida net.
Florida would explode with four unanswered goals in the second period. Berg got the Everblades on the scoreboard as he was being knocked to the ice threw a backhander that banked into the net off Greenville goaltender Michel Robinson's leg. Brian McCullough evened the game at two when he gathered a rebound in front and wristed the puck over Robinson for his 36th goal of the year. The Everblades took their first lead of the game when Berg swatted home a Keith Anderson rebound. Florida would add one more goal before the period ended when Matt Pagnutti charged to the net and had the puck bounce into the net off of his skate. Pagnutti's goal gives him a point in eight consecutive games.
Greenville would try to rally when Mark Concannon's backhander found it's way behind netminder Jeff Maund to pull the Grrrowl within 4-3. Florida jumped back up by two goals when Berg finished off an odd man rush backhanding the puck behind Robinson to complete the hat trick. Greenville's Mike Nelson made it 5-4 on the power play but the Grrrowl could not get any closer as Florida held on for the victory.
Maund stopped 34 of 38 shots. Robinson stopped 34 of 39 shots. Florida finished 0 for 6 on the power play while Greenville went 2 for 6. The Everblades return to action next Friday and Saturday, March 19th and 20th at TECO Arena when they will take on the Greensboro Generals. Game time for both games is 7:30 PM.
