December 5, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Two, third period power play goals weren't enough as the Steelheads failed to complete an improbable rally in a 3-2 loss to the Fresno Falcons on Wednesday night at Qwest Arena.

A crowd of 2,973 watched as the Steelheads (7-7-6) dropped the opening game of the three-game series, which also snapped their two-game, home winning streak. The win gives the Falcons (9-6-3) their first three-game winning streak this season and their fourth win away from home.

The visitors got the only goal in the first period when Brady Leisenring beat Steve Silverthorn (15 saves) five-hole on a wrist shot from the high slot. Defenseman P.O. Beaulieu grabbed the assist on the even-strength goal at 12:52, Leisenring's fourth of the season.

Early in the second stanza the Falcons exploded for two goals in 24 seconds to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Just 41 seconds into the frame, and with a delayed penalty coming up to the Steelheads, Falcons' defenseman Matt O'Dette redirected a pass into the crease behind Silverthorn for his first goal of the year. Matt Stefanishion and John Morlang collected the helpers.

Oren Eizenman made it 3-0 when he snagged his own rebound and wrapped the puck around Silverthorn's cage and past the third-year pro for his ninth of the campaign. Igor Gongalsky and Mike Ramsay picked up the assists.

Kellen Briggs (13 saves) came in to replace Silverthorn after Eizenman's tally with the score 3-0 in favor of the Falcons heading into the second intermission.

In the opening stages of the third period, Kory Scoran put the Steelheads on the board, earning his first of the season at the 3:02 mark to cut the deficit to 3-1. Lance Galbraith and Mark Bomersback tallied the assists on the man advantage goal. Just over two minutes later, Galbraith tipped Scoran's point shot underneath Falcons' goaltender Jake Moreland (39 saves) to make the score 3-2. Matt Craig recorded the second assist on Galbraith's eighth of the year and his fifth on the man advantage.

The final shots favored the Steelheads 41-31, with the 41 shots setting a new season-high for the Steelheads. The home team ended the night two-for-five on the power play and seven-for-seven on the penalty kill, as they dropped just their second game in regulation at home this season.

The Steelheads continue their series with the Falcons on Friday, December 7. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
