Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho¾ The Idaho Steelheads and Idaho Statesman are offering Treasure Valley 6th, 7th and 8th graders an opportunity to become a Junior Statesman Sports Reporter for a day. Three students, one from each grade level, will be selected based on a submission of a short written essay (300 words or less) of why they should be chosen. The top essay from each grade level will be selected.

The essay contest-winning students will attend an Idaho Steelheads hockey game, receive tickets for their family members to attend, visit the locker room before and after the game, interview Head Coach Derek Laxdal and a Steelheads player, sit with an Idaho Statesman reporter in the press box, and write a story about their experience. The story will be published on the Idaho Statesman's website at www.idahostatesman.com as well as the Steelheads website at www.idahosteelheads.com.

In addition, the students and their families will receive a tour of the Idaho Statesman's facility to learn about the newspaper industry.

Students should submit their short essay about why they should be chosen by Friday, Jan. 11th to JrStatesmanReporter@IdahoSteelheads.com. Or, mail to Bonnie Way Snider, Idaho Steelheads Hockey Club, 251 S. Capitol Blvd., Boise, Idaho 83702. Be sure to include your contact information. Winners will be notified by phone.
