Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Fans got a taste of playoff hockey last week as the impassioned Steelheads took four of a possible six points from the reigning Kelly Cup Champions. The first place Alaska Aces skated off with a win in the first game of the series, but Idaho battled back winning the second game 2-1 in a thrilling shootout and the final 4-2 before a packed house.

Idaho will play its last games at Qwest Arena this week with three games against the visiting Long Beach Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs come in with a 24-38-0-3 (51 points) record. The Steelheads start this week with a 37-24-2-3 (79 points) record. Idaho will close out the season on the road next week with two games in Bakersfield followed by the last game of the season in Fresno.

Idaho, presently second in the West Division and fourth in the National Conference, has already clinched a playoff spot, but is hoping to hold onto at least its current position to secure home ice advantage for the first round of the post-season. The top two teams in each division are automatically in, followed by the next six best teams in the conference.
