Shantz recalled to AHL

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that goaltender David Shantz has been recalled by the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

The call-up is the first in Shantz's career as he heads to Rochester with a 13-7-1 record and a 2.96 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in 23 games. The 20-year-old earned a spot on the 2007 ECHL's American Conference All-Star squad making 15 saves in the period he played. Shantz began the season by winning his first three games, and earned his first professional victory on October 21 vs. Texas.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, the Hamilton, Ontario native spent three seasons at the junior level with Mississauga and Peterborough of the Ontario Hockey League. Shantz's best season came in 2005-06 when he helped lead Peterborough to the OHL championship and a trip to the Memorial Cup by going 31-14-3 with a 2.87 GAA in the regular season and posting a 16-3 mark with a 2.61 GAA in 19 post-season games.
