Bombers' Denike Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Terry Denike of the Dayton Bombers is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 19-25, 2007. Denike won the award for Feb. 26-Mar. 4 and becomes the fifth two-time winner this season, joining Mike McKenna of Las Vegas, Cedrick Desjardins of Cincinnati, Jamie Hodson of Bakersfield and Derek Gustafson of Alaska.

The 25-year-old Denike was 4-0-1 with a 1.57 goals-against average and a save percentage of .940 to help the Bombers move into first place in the North Division with 77 points (35-22-7) and clinch their first Kelly Cup Playoffs berth since 2002.

The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound Denike stopped 21 of 23 shots he faced on Mar. 20 in a 3-2 win against Toledo and was back on the ice just over 12 hours later for a 10:30 a.m. game at Toledo where he had 31 saves in a 5-1 win. He stopped 20 shots in a 4-1 win against Johnstown on Mar. 23 before losing 3-2 in a shootout against Johnstown on Mar. 24 despite making 24 saves in regulation and overtime and stopping five of six shooters in the shootout. He ended the week on a high note stopping 30 of 32 shots in a 3-2 win at Johnstown to help the Bombers advance to the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Signed by Dayton on Feb. 8, the Burlington, Ontario native has started 17 consecutive games since joining the team and is 11-3-3 with a 2.10 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.

Selected in the fifth round (152nd overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and in his fourth professional season, Denike began the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League where he was 3-6-1 with a goals-against average of 4.98 and a save percentage of .873 for Florida before the team folded in January.

In his first professional season in 2003-04, Denike played in the ECHL with Fresno and Reading and was 3-5-1 with a goals-against average of 3.19 and a save percentage of .904 in 11 games while also playing in the Central Hockey League where he was 1-1-0 with a 2.42 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in two games with Wichita. He played in the SPHL the last two seasons with Jacksonville, Macon and Florida and in 2006 was named the SPHL Goaltender of the Year after going 28-13-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.97 and a save percentage of .910 in 48 games for Florida.
