
Steelheads Outlasts IceDogs

An excellent third period by the Steelheads resulted in a 4-1 victory over the Niagara IceDogs.
First Period
The Steelheads looked to continue their winning streak against the IceDogs after a shutout win over the Bulldogs on Friday. Steelheads showed good energy to begin the first period, generating the game's first six shots.
The league's fourth-ranked Steelheads penalty kill unit stood up to the task with great defence and forechecking, ending Niagara powerplays without conceding a goal.
The IceDogs struck first with 45 seconds remaining in the period, as Alec Leonard out-muscled a Steelheads defender, shot off a Steelheads player for the 1-0 lead. Steelheads starting netminder Roman Basran continued his solid goaltending in the opening period, highlighted by his sensational last-minute saves stopping IceDogs Cameron Snow and Landon Cato.

Second Period
In the second period, the Steelheads put the pressure on the IceDogs with a barrage of shots at the Niagara netminder Tucker Tynan but could not put the puck back into the net.
Steelheads netminder Basran was quiet in the middle frame but kept his squad in the game, highlighted by a great glove save on a point-break shot by IceDogs' Cameron Peters.

Third Period
The Steelheads finally had their breakthrough in the final frame. It all started at the 2:31 mark after Chas Sharpe jammed the puck past IceDogs' Tynan to even the score at one. James Hardie and Dylan Gordon with the assist.
The floodgates continued at the 3:58 mark with Sharpe's second goal of the contest, receiving the beautiful pass from Gordon, going top shelf past the IceDogs netminder for a 2-1 Steelheads lead. Owen Beck also got credit with the assist.
Steelheads extended their lead following Luca DelBelBelluz setting up Ty Collins, who shot past Tynan for a 3-1 lead. Basran and the Steelheads' defence stood their ground in the final minutes. DelBelBelluz sealed the Steelheads win with an empty netter at the 18:11 mark.

With the win, the Steelheads winning streak reaches four games. The next game for the Steelheads is on the road in the nation's capital on Friday as they face off with the Ottawa 67's.
