North Bay Battalion News Release

OTTAWA - Dylan Robinson scored on a penalty shot at 19:32 of the third period to give the Ottawa 67's a 2-1 victory over the North Bay Battalion in an Ontario Hockey League game Sunday.

Brady Stonehouse scored the other goal for Ottawa, which got 26 saves from goaltender Will Cranley before a crowd of 2,226 at TD Place.

The 67's moved their won-lost-extended record to 8-4-0 for 16 points, tied with the Hamilton Bulldogs for first place in the East Division.

Kyle Jackson scored the North Bay goal, while rookie goaltender Dom DiVincentiis turned in a stellar performance with 37 saves.

The Battalion, 8-6-0 for 16 points atop the Central Division, completed a three-game eastern swing, having defeated the Peterborough Petes 6-3 Thursday night and the Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 Friday night.

"That was a stinger at the end, for sure," said coach Ryan Oulahen.

"But it was a really, really good weekend here. Coming out before the weekend started if you were to say, 'You've got a chance to win two out of three games in tough buildings, in tough scenarios,' we would have taken it. So I think we're going to have a good feeling on the bus going back and just try to get over that bad break at the end."

The Battalion, which had all four power plays allotted in the final period, had the man advantage when Robinson seized a turnover in the neutral zone and broke in on DiVincentiis. When a diving Ty Nelson brushed Robinson's lower left leg with his stick after the attacker had lost control of the puck across the goalmouth, referee Jason Faist signaled the penalty shot.

Robinson moved in and beat DiVincentiis low for what was recorded as a shorthanded goal, Robinson's fourth goal of the season.

The Battalion had scant moments to attempt to tie it, with Nelson firing a desperation shot from the right boards at the blue line at the buzzer.

Stonehouse struck unassisted at 6:43 of the second period, driving down the left wing on a two-on-one rush, firing the puck from the circle and converting his own rebound. It was the first OHL goal for rookie Stonehouse.

Jackson replied at 18:55 with his seventh goal. Brandon Coe fed the puck diagonally back to Simon Rose at the right point, and Jackson, in traffic between the circles, tipped home Rose's shot.

The scoreless first period saw Ottawa outshoot the Battalion 13-10, but Coe had a solid chance when he was sent in alone on Cranley and made contact with the goaltender, who went down briefly at 8:27.

Alexander Lukin received what was called a charging penalty for a check on Robinson at 9:19, and Teddy Sawyer took exception, attacking Lukin and drawing a roughing penalty that resulted, after a lengthy video review, in the teams skating four a side.

The Battalion got its lone power play of the period when Anthony Costantini went off for interference at 15:19, and Matvey Petrov promptly rang the puck off the right post.

The Battalion plays the last of six consecutive road games when it visits the Sudbury Wolves at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The game can be seen live in North Bay on YourTV Channels 12 and 700.
