Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. For the Sunday matinée the Hamilton Bulldogs took on the Barrie Colts on home ice to finish up a tough 3-in-3 weekend, with the team looking to continue momentum from last night's comeback victory against Sudbury. A determined Bulldogs group would open the scoring through Jonathan Melee as he squeezed one in from a scramble in front of Matteo Lalama's net at 6:28 with help from Lawson Sherk. Penalty killers for the Bulldogs came alive this period and Marco Costantini stood on his head throughout the whole period, stopping 10 shots from Barrie helping the Bulldogs keep their 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
The second period both teams came out ready to battle, for the first half they were goal-less thanks to Costantini and Lalama. The second half of the period the Colts took advantage, and Brandt Clarke capitalized on the powerplay to score at 7:35, his fifth of the season, to tie it up 1- 1. The Bulldogs came back to score on the 5-on-3 power play to retake the lead as Nathan Staios, marking his second of the season, ripped it passed the Lalama at 10:55, with amazing cycle work from George Diaco and Logan Morrison. The Bulldogs ended the period leading by one goal and looked to finish out the long weekend with another win.
The Colts started off the period with the game tying goal at 0:33 from Nicholas Porco. Three minutes later at 3:33 the Bulldogs came right back with a sweet tip in from a wicked Chandler Romeo shot off the left point for not only his first of the season but first as a Bulldog for Cole Brown with Gavin White garnering the secondary helper.
Barrie wasn't finished however, and Beau Jelsma picked up his third of the season scoring the game tying goal at 15:34. After 60 minutes of play the third period ended in a 3-3 tie and headed into a 3 on 3 five-minute overtime. With just 0:24 seconds of overtime elapsed Barrie saw a chance with Evan Vierling feeding Nathan Allensen who scored the game winning goal to end in a 4-3 OT win.
The Hamilton Bulldogs return to the FirstOntario Centre once again on Friday, November 12 at 7:00pm to face the Peterborough Petes.
