Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads evened the series Friday night against the Florida Everblades at one apiece after a 3-2 win. The 4,318 fans in attendance at the Bank of America Centre were treated to a very physical, penalty-filled game between the 2004 Kelly Cup Finals foes.

As they did in their Wednesday night victory, Florida tallied the first goal of the game. Damian Surma fed Chris Lee who came in on a breakaway and buried a shot between Idaho goalie Frank Doyle's legs at 11:12. Idaho had a man-advantage for nearly the final two minutes of the game - the first power play of the game, but couldn't convert.

At 2:19 of the second frame, Dave Cornacchia skated the puck around the net, turned and faced Florida's goalie Craig Kowalski and tallied with a wrister. At 3:59, Cornacchia made a hit on Keith Anderson who was injured on the play and carried off on a stretcher after a lengthy delay. Then, on a turnover in the Steelheads end, Scott Burt skated the puck down the ice all alone and tapped it between Kowalski's pads to give Idaho a one-goal lead. Florida had two back-to-back man-advantages midway through the period, but couldn't capitalize. With 1:39 left, Brett Draney was awarded a penalty shot after Ed Hill threw his stick taking Drany down as he was going in on Kowalski. The Florida netminder made a pad save on Draney's shot. Idaho had outshot Florida 25 to 14 by the end of the second period.

Idaho had a two-man advantage for 17 seconds and scored with nine seconds left. The Steelheads had been pressuring Florida's net and Brett Draney was finally able to convert. The goal was Draney's first of the year. With an extra attacker after pulling their goalie, Florida won the face off and got the puck to Ryan Brindley who scored his first goal of the year. But, the goal came to no avail as Idaho won the game 3-2. Idaho outshot Florida 34-19.
