Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC -- The Pee Dee Pride announced today that Nextel Cup Series driver Jeff Burton will be in attendance for tomorrow night's game against the Columbia Inferno, and will drop the ceremonial first puck.
Burton has scored eight top-15 finishes, including one top-five and two top-10 finishes, in only 10 NASCAR Cup series starts since his arrival at Richard Childress Racing in early August. The South Boston, Va., native competed in one NASCAR Cup Series race in 1993 before becoming a fulltime driver and earning rookie-of-the-year honors in 1994. In 362 series starts, he has earned 17 victories, two poles, 91 top-five and 149 top-10 finishes and finished in the top-10 in the championship point standings from 1997-2001.
Burton also has 20 victories, 63 top-five and 106 top-10 finishes in 239 starts in the NASCAR Busch Series.
Prior to tomorrow's game, the Budweiser Clydesdales will be in the civic center parking lot near the box office from 5:00 until 7:00. Fans can have their pictures taken with the Clydesdales with a $1 donation to the Pride Youth Hockey Association. Fans are also encouraged to bring a canned food item with them to the game to donate to the Boy Scouts Canned Food Drive. The first 1,000 fans in attendance receive a free coozie courtesy of Micky Finn's, and during the second intermission, the Pride present the eighth annual Wiener Dog Nationals.
Any fan who presents a ticket from any of this weekend's races at Darlington Raceway receives $3 off a 200 or 400 level ticket for tomorrow's game.
Tickets are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
