IceGators Dominate Sea Wolves 6-2

Lafayette, LA – On a night when the IceGators honored the greats from the past, the 2004-05 team showed they can rock the Frozen Swamp as well, dominating the Mississippi Sea Wolves en route to a 6-2 win.

The Gators took control is the first period lighting the lamp 3 times behind Sea Wolves net minder Jason Wolfe. At 10:49 rookie Pascal Pelletier scored his first professional goal on wrap around to give Louisiana a 1-0 lead. At 13:51 Alex Materukhin made it 2-0 when his pass through the slot bounced off a Missssippi defender and into the net, his 2nd tally of the season. Mike Omicioli's slap shot from the left circle made it 3-0 after one. The diminutive center scoring his 4th in 5 games.. The Gators out shot the Wolves 22-8 in the first 20 minutes.

The Gators padded their lead to 5-1 in the 2nd period, David Barauk scored the first shorthanded goal of the year by the Gators, just 23 seconds into the period and Pascal Pelletier scored on the power play at 7:26, his 2nd of the night. Anthony Battaglia's goal at 6:13 the only lamp lighter in the first 40 minutes for the Sea Wolves.

In the 3rd period penalties turned the game ugly, with each team scoring one power play goal. Battaglia's 2nd goal of the night at 3:07 cut the lead to 5-2. Chris Thompson answered with a deflection at 11:26, his 1st of the season to make the final score 6-2. The Gators out shot the Wolves 49-37 for the game. Mississippi was 1-9 on the power play, Louisiana 2-8.

The Gators and sea Wolves will have a rematch tomorrow night in Biloxi. The Gators will return home for "Cheap Date" Wednesday, November 17 against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
