Condors Keep Rolling with 5-1 Win

November 12, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - Lars Peder Nagel scored twice and added an assist as the Bakersfield Condors reeled off five unanswered goals and cruised to their sixth consecutive victory, 5-1 over the Toledo Storm in front of 4,008 fans at Centennial Garden on Thursday night.

For the second straight game the Condors fell behind, when Sam Paolini slipped in his second goal of the season for the Storm at 7:31 of the opening frame. Less than three minutes later the Condors answered, with rookie Connor James gathering his own rebound and tucking home the equalizer on an assist from Lars Peder Nagel. Nagel scored the go- ahead goal later in the first on an odd-man rush and Chris Twerdun tallied his fifth of the year with just over seven seconds left in the opening frame for a 3- 1 lead after one. Twerdun leads all defensemen in the ECHL and is tied for the rookie lead in goals.

Despite being shorthanded four times in the middle frame and being outshot 8-1 at the time, Bakersfield advanced the lead with Nagel's second of the game. Luis Tremblay launched an aerial pass from the Bakersfield goal line to the red line and hit Nagel in stride to set up the breakaway tally. Toss in Todd Alexander's shorthanded breakaway goal with 3:57 remaining in the game and mix in a strong 29- save performance by Randy Petruk and you have the recipe for a Condors victory. Petruk has backstopped five of the Condors six wins this season.

On Friday there will be a special visit from the world's smallest Elvis impersonator, Little 'e', as the Storm and Condors meet again, courtesy of Bright House Networks, KGEO AM 1230 and Rio Bravo Country Club. On Saturday the Condors will don special Veteran's Day jerseys for the first Jersey Off Our Backs raffle and auction to benefit the Ronald McDonald House as the San Diego Gulls come back to town. All games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230 with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to the drop of the puck.
