Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Dan Shermerhorn scored the exciting game-winning shootout goal to give the Steelheads a 3-2 win over the Fresno Falcons before 5,041 at the Bank of America Centre Friday night.

The Falcons were the first to score and the only team to put a point on the board in the first period. Jordan Landry got a pass over to Colin Embley who slipped one past Steelheads netminder Blair Allison at 5:02. Brad Both also recorded an assist on the goal.

Idaho came out looking a little more aggressive in the second period. Adam Copeland scored on a slap shot from inside the blue line that got through Both's legs and past a screened Terry Friesen. The tally came at 4:19 to tie the game at one apiece. At 14:13 the Steelheads took a one-goal lead when Scott Burt scored on a one-timer, assisted by Marty Flichel and Derrick Atkinson. Fresno didn't allow the Steelheads to have the lead for long though as they scored the equalizer at 17:04. Jason McBain got one up and over Allison on the glove side with Landry notching his second assist of the game.

Though the third period was scoreless, there was no shortage of excitement. Both teams had good scoring, but both goaltenders held their own. With just over four-minutes left in the game Friesen made a nice save on a power play shot by Marty Flichel. Regulation play ended tied at two. Cory Murphy scored the only shootout goal for Fresno, and Dampy Brar and Dan Shermerhorn scored for Idaho.

The two teams meet again Saturday night to play the second of the three-game weekend series. Puck drops at 7:05.
