Ice Dogs Fight Back, But Lose 5-2 To Gulls

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Goaltender Danielle Dube faced a season-high 48 shots in the Ice Dogs' 5-2 loss to the San Diego Gulls Friday night at Long Beach Arena. It is the third time in four starts for the Ice Dogs that Dube has faced more than 40 shots.

Long Beach (17-34-3) came to life after training 3-0 in the second period. Richard Paul scored his first goal as an Ice Dog at 6:25. Denis Ladouceur closed the gap to 3-2 on his goal of the season at 7:36. Pat Brush blasted a shot from inside the blue-line, Nathan Horne's shot on the rebound was stopped by Gulls' goaltender Cris Classen, but Ladouceur found the loose puck and scored.

San Diego (34-18-3) started the scoring on Sandro Sbrocca's breakaway goal at 10:25 in the first period. Clayton Read kept the Gulls offense going on his first goal of the night at 13:20 in the first period.

The Gulls increased their lead to 3-0 on Read's second goal of the night at 3:08 in the second period. San Diego recorded 23 shots-on-goal in the second period, the second-most allowed in a period by a Long Beach opponent all year. The most shots-on-goal occurred in the first game of the season as the Ice Dogs allowed 25 shots in the third period at San Diego.

David Neale's goal at 16:28 in the third period shut the door and Mark Pederson added an empty-net goal with 16 seconds left in the game.
