March 1, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Anchorage, Alaska â Two goals within 38 seconds midway through the third period brought the Anchorage Aces from behind and gave them a 5-4 victory in front of 4,791 fans at the Sullivan Arena on Friday night.
The Aces came out hard, and took advantage of early pressure to take a 1-0 lead. Yvan Corbin skated out of the corner and chipped a shot past goaltender Kevin St. Pierre for his 36th of the season. The lead didn't last, however, as Jason Jackman banged home a rebound for the equalizer a 5:42. That line connected again later in the first, as Jason Ralph entered the Anchorage zone on a 2-on-1, and fired a shot home for his 23rd goal of the campaign. The wide-open first period ended with a 2-1 Condors advantage.
The two clubs exchanged goals early in the second period. Kevin McNeill tied the game up on a rebound at 5:29 of the second period. Less than a minute later, however, the Condors went on the power play and regained the lead. Guy Dupuis' wrist shot sailed over the left leg pad of Aces goalie Ryan Person to make it 3-2. An Aces power play later in the period led to the next goal, as Carl Drakensjo slipped a rebound along the ice past St. Pierre to tie the game at 3-3 after 40 minutes.
Bakersfield regained the lead with a shorthanded goal in the third period. Shawn Byram finished off a breakaway to make the score 4-3. Midway through the period, however, the Aces broke loose. A power play goal by McNeill at 10:20, and a Dean Larson tally at 10:58 pushed Anchorage in front 5-4. The Condors could not get the game tied up, and the Aces defeated Bakersfield for the eighth time this season.
They improved to 3-1-1 under new Head Coach Perry Florio, while the Condors five-game winning streak came to an end.
The Condors remain on the road for another match against Anchorage on Saturday night, starting at 8:00pm (PST). All games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to face off.
They return home to face the Fresno Falcons on Tuesday, March 4th at 7:00pm. That game is the final WB 12 and KISS 96.5 Student ID Night, which gives all college and high school students the opportunity to purchase lower level seats for just $1. The first 1,000 fans that night will also receive a set of Condors Mardi Gras beads, sponsored by FOX 98.5 and The Prime Cut.
