Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals and Flint Generals shot out the lights, shot the moon, and shot themselves in the foot all in one game on Saturday night. When the dust settled, the Jackals came out with a 7-5 win in front of a packed house of 4,076 at the Coach USA Center.

In the first period the two teams combined for six goals in the first 11:58. Brad Wingfield started things off at 4:51 from Rob Guinn and David Lessard, followed by Mike Thompson at 8:14 from Corey Neilson and Eddy Lowe. Flint would start their pattern of crawling back into the game at 8:35 when Jim Duhart made it 2-1 with help from Bobby Reynolds and Dale Greenwood. Elmira extended the lead to 3-1 on Neilson's power play goal at 10:47 from Lessard and Marco Emond, the Jackals' eighth straight game with a power play goal. Tom Perry responded at 11:06 before Wingfield scored his second of the game at 11:58 from Mike Hofstrand. That goal chased Flint starter Paxton Shafer, who allowed four goals on eight shots. Sean Weaver replaced him in the General net and stopped the bleeding for Flint, with the period ending 4-2 in favor of Elmira.

The second saw the Flint once again come within a goal as Jay Woodcroft scored just 2:29 into the second stanza to make it 4-3, but the Jackals came back with Glenn Stewart's goal at 9:21 from Hofstrand and Aaron Phillips to regain the two goal advantage. The Jackals made it a three-goal lead at 18:23 as Phillips scored from Neilson and Randy Murphy. After two periods of play, Elmira held a 6-3 lead.

For the final frame, Flint came out flying, scoring twice before the halfway mark. Dale Greenwood notched both goals for the Generals to pull them within one at 6-5. But a timely goal from Murphy pushed Elmira back ahead by two with 4:18 remaining in the contest. Phillips and Stewart provided the help, and the Jackals held on for the 7-5 win. Marco Emond stopped 22 of 27 Flint shots for the win, while Sean Weaver ended up with the loss, blocking 20 of 23 in relief.

Notes:

With his two points, Glenn Stewart extended his personal point-scoring streak to eight games. Stewart has also scored a goal in his last seven consecutive home games, the longest current streak in the UHL.

With the win, Marco Emond remains unbeaten in regulation in his last eight decisions, where he is 6-0-2 over that time.

Brad Wingfield scored twice in his return from a one game suspension for the Jackals. In games after being suspended, Wingfield has collected seven points on four goals and three assists.

The Jackals are now 5-1-2 against Flint this season, with two games to go against the Generals, one in each team's rink.

The Jackals will now wrap up a three game weekend against Adirondack on Sunday at 4 pm. The five game homestand will continue on Thursday against Fort Wayne at 7 pm, then the IceHawks return for a rematch on Friday night, also a 7 pm start. The will finish the weekend with a game in Glens Falls against the IceHawks on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
