Steelheads' Derek Nesbitt Receives Echl Sportsmanship Award

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Friday announced that Idaho Steelheads right wing Derek Nesbitt is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award for 2006-07 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches.

The award is presented annually to the player who is judged to have exhibited the best sportsmanship combined with a high standard of playing ability.

Luke Curtin of the Fresno Falcons and Mike Pandolfo of the Trenton Titans tied for second while Scott Bertoli of the Trenton Titans finished fourth in the voting.

In his second professional season, the 24-year-old Nesbitt has 30 penalty minutes in 64 games and is tied for sixth in the league and is second on the team with 79 points. He leads the Steelheads and is eighth in the ECHL with 51 assists while he is tied for the team lead and tied for seventh in the league with 15 power-play goals. He was selected to the ECHL All-Star Game and finished second in online voting for the 2007 Rbk Hockey All-Star Idol contest.

The ECHL will announce the winner of the Rookie of the Year award on Saturday.
