Augusta Lynx News Release

Estero, FL - The Augusta Lynx clinched a playoff spot despite a 5-4 loss to the Florida Everblades on Friday night as the Gwinnett Gladiators down the South Carolina Stingrays 4-2 to help the Lynx wrap up a spot in the post-season.

Augusta struck quickly to open a 1-0 lead just 1:56 into the game. Mike Erickson cashed in on a Louis Goulet pass from behind the Florida net, flipping the puck over the left shoulder of Craig Kowalski for his 26th goal of the year.

Florida would come back with a pair of its own to take the lead from Jonathan Lehun and Vince Bellissimo after 20 minutes of play.

J.B. Bittner tied the game with a power play goal 13 seconds into the second stanza, scoring with a wrist shot from the high slot over the glove of Kowalski from Louis Goulet.

But after Augusta killed off a four minute double minor against, the Everblades finally broke through for a pair of goals, again late in the period. At 17:43 Derek Damon scored after walking out in front of the Lynx net and roofing the puck over the left shoulder of Marsters, and then set up Reggie Berg for a one-timer just 37 seconds later to make it 4-2 after two periods of play.

In the third Florida opened up a 5-2 lead on Berg's second goal of the evening, but Augusta would mount a comeback effort.

Ken Scuderi scored two power play goals at 8:03 and 14:07, and suddenly the Lynx were within a single goal and pressuring the Everblades.

Down the stretch the Lynx fired as much rubber as possible at Kowalski and the Everblades, even pulling Marsters for the extra attacker in the game's final minute. But Florida held Augusta off the board for the remainder of the game and the Lynx fell short in a 5-4 final.

Augusta finished the game 3-for-4 with the power play while Florida ended the evening 0-for-2.

Following tomorrow's game, the Lynx will play the Charlotte Checkers in a best-of-three series to determine the fourth seed in the South Division. The winner of the series will face the first seed in the South, which will either be Florida or Texas.
