Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons dropped their fifth straight game on Friday, falling to the Long Beach Ice Dogs 4-2 in front of 5,307 fans at Save Mart Center.

Fresno needs to gain one point in Saturday's regular-season finale against Idaho, or have Victoria lose one point against Phoenix, to finish sixth in the National Conference.

Brian McConnell scored his ninth goal of the season 7:44 into the first period to give the Falcons an early 1-0 lead. McConnell gathered in the rebound of a John Wroblewski shot, and pushed the puck past Brett Jaeger to tally a goal for the third straight game.

Long Beach pulled even at 14:33. Brandon Schwartz fed a pass across the crease to Ash Goldie on the near post, and Goldie flipped a shot over Scott Stirling to tie the game through 20 minutes of play.

The Ice Dogs took the lead just 35 seconds into the second period when Goldie had his shot from the right-wing circle deflected in front by Chris Collins, who recorded his 15th goal of the season.

Both Stirling and Jaeger were ejected from the game at 18:01 of the second period. Following a jam-up in the Fresno crease, Jaeger skated the length of the ice, and fought Stirling.

Long Beach extended its lead to two with a power-play goal 8:24 into the third period as Goldie took a feed from Gabriel Proulx and snapped a shot past Ryan MacDonald from then right-wing circle for his second goal of the night.

Fresno pulled back within one with another power-play goal at 12:07 as John Wroblewski was able to redirect a shot past Mike Brown on the far post for his 20th goal of the season.

The Falcons pulled MacDonald in the final minute, but the Ice Dogs took advantage, as Collins notched his second of the night into an empty net at 19:30 to set the final.
