Charlotte Pulls Out 3-2 Win at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Charlotte Checkers forward Blake Bellefeuille's second goal of the night and 29th of the season at 5:48 of the third period proved to be the difference in a 3-2 triumph over the Cincinnati Cyclones Friday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The defeat eliminates Cincinnati from claiming the North Division title.

Charlotte opened the scoring 10:31 into the first period when Blake Bellefeuille netted his 31st goal of the season, with Niko Tuomi collecting the assist on the goal. The Cyclones knotted the game at 1-1, when Jean-Michel Daoust picked up his 32nd goal of the season at 14:52, as Rory Rawlyk and Jimmy Bonneau added the assists on the score. The shots on goal in the opening period favored Cincinnati, 10-9.

Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead when Mathieu Aubin pumped home his 12th goal on a goal mouth scramble at 9:34. Rawlyk and Daoust added the assists. Cincinnati held the advantage in shots on goal in the period, 10-8.

Charlotte had a pair of third period goals to collect the win. Bruce Graham's 33rd goal at 1:47 on the power play tied the game at 2-2, as Jeff Lang and Stephen Sloninia added the assists. The game winner came from Bellefeuille at 5:48, as Mark Lee added the helper.

Cincinnati outshot Charlotte for the game, 28-24. The Checkers cashed in two of four power play chances, while the Cyclones went zero for two.

The Cyclones are now 37-29-4-2, while Charlotte is 42-28-1-2, third in the South Division. The regular season comes to a close for Cincinnati, which tied its best ECHL season in club history. The Cyclones will begin play in the Kelly Cup playoffs next week, as the No. 2 seed in the North Division. The pairings will be announced early next week.
