Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and the Manitoba Moose, are pleased to announce that Goaltender Bryan Bridges is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for March 2007.
In the Salmon Kings sweep of both the Long Beach Ice Dogs at home, and the Utah Grizzlies on the road, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound rookie netminder was 5-0-1 for March and launched the team into its current seven-game win streak.
The 21-year-old native of Victoria tied a personal best 0.977 save percentage in a 4-1 win against Long Beach on March 24th, and then beat the record with a 0.978 save percentage in a 7-1 victory over Utah on March 28th. In addition, Bridges earned a personal best 45 saves and tied his personal best of four consecutive wins. The following game, a 4-3 overtime against Utah on March 30, garnered him a personal best and team best five straight wins as a starter.
Overall for March, the career shutout record holder for the Western Hockey League (WHL) posted a goals-against average of 1.62 and a save percentage of 0.956 in six games. He was runner-up for Goaltender of the Week (March 19-25) with a 2-0-0 record, 1.00 goals-against average, and 0.974 save percentage. Bridges is expected to start tonight in game two versus the Phoenix Roadrunners, starting at 7:05 p.m. at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
