Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (43-22-6) moved a step closer to winning the South Division after a tense 5-4 victory over the Augusta Lynx (39-28-4) on Friday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 7,026. The win combined with the Texas loss at Columbia allows the Everblades to clinch the division with a win or a tie in tomorrow's season finale.

Friday's game started off in strong fashion for the Lynx as Mike Erickson notched his 26th goal of the season just 1:56 into the game. The Lynx kept the pressure on over the first 10 minutes, but the Everblades slowly got back into the contest and eventually tied the score at one when Jon Lehun banged home his 23rd goal of the season at 14:42 with assists to Dustin Johner and Ernie Hartlieb. Just under four minutes later Vince Bellissimo knocked a pass from Adam Taylor by Augusta net minder Nathan Marsters to give the Everblades the lead.

The Lynx held carry-over power play time into the second period and they would cash in quickly to tie the game at two as J.B. Bittner's shot from the slot sailed over the glove of Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski just 13 seconds into the period. The game remained tied at two until the final minutes of the period when the Everblades tacked on two late goals. Derek Damon regained the lead for the Everblades with a nice shot from the bottom of the left circle that found its way past Marsters at 17:43. Mike Card assisted on Damon's 20th goal of the year. The Everblades then took advantage of an Augusta turnover just 37 seconds later when Reggie Berg lasered home his career-high 28th goal of the season from the right circle on a feed from Damon and Hartlieb.

Leading by two entering the third period, the Everblades wasted little time extending the lead to three on Berg's second goal of the night after a nice give-and-go with Brad Zancanaro 5:19 into the frame. Ryan Brindley picked up the second assist on the tally. The Lynx however didn't go away quietly as they closed the gap to one with a pair of power play goals by Ken Scuderi. The first came at 8:03 with the Lynx holding a 5-on-3 power play and Scuderi's point shot navigated traffic in front of Kowalski and into the back of the net. Scuderi's second of the game and seventh of the season came at 14:07 from the left post to trim the Everblade lead to 5-4.

The Lynx pressured the Everblades down the stretch, including over the final 43 seconds with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, but couldn't find the equalizer as Kowalski shut the door en-route to earning his 28th win of the season. Overall Kowalski made 20 saves to raise his record to 28-13-4, while Marsters suffered the loss after allowing the five goals on 35 shots to see his record drop to 7-5-2.

On the power play, the Everblades finished 0-for-2, while the Lynx closed out the game 3-for-4.
