Thunder's 11-Game Winning Streak Snapped By Vegas' Two-Goal Third

April 6, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

LAS VEGAS - Steve Crampton scored a goal and assist to lead a two-goal, third period rally by the Las Vegas Wranglers, who sent the Stockton Thunder (38-23-10, 86 points) to a 3-1 setback before 5,762 at Orleans Arena on Friday night.

The loss snaps the Thunder's team-record 11-game winning streak, who is guaranteed the fifth seed in the upcoming Kelly Cup Playoffs after Idaho's 2-1 win at Bakersfield tonight. Idaho will play the Thunder in the upcoming National Conference quarterfinal round, controlling home-ice advantage in the best-of-seven series as the fourth seed.

Both teams began the game in a physically furious pace, which included a check between Las Vegas' Ryan Donally and Thunder defenseman Ryan Geris which dislodged a pane of glass behind the Thunder net.

Thunder goaltender Devan Dubnyk kept the game scoreless with a point-blank glove save on the Wranglers' Adam Cracknell, but Cracknell came back with a one-timer goal at the first period's 12:31 mark for a 1-0 Las Vegas lead, converting in the slot from a right wing pass via Arpad Mihaly.

Veteran Colin Pepperall knotted the game at 1-1 just 5:18 into the second period for a power-play goal. Mike Lalonde's wrist shot was stopped by traffic in front of the net, where Pepperall followed by picking up the loose puck and sliding it into an open-net, past an outstretched McKenna. Dubnyk kept Las Vegas at-bay with nine second period saves.

Las Vegas began its rally with Steve Crampton's two-man advantage goal at the 2:59 mark of the third period for a 2-1 lead, who netted the eventual game-winner with a wrist shot from the slot after corralling a left wing pass from Derek Edwardson. The Wranglers finished the scoring at the 18:09 mark on Jason Josza's power-play marker, taking Crampton's feed from the right corner and beating Dubnyk with a snap shot from the mid-slot.

Dubnyk made 31 saves despite taking the loss. Las Vegas' 12-game winning streak is tied for third longest in ECHL history, matching its own 12-game run set last season.
