Trenton Devils News Release

WHEELING, WV (April 6, 2007) - Three goals scored in the second period by the Trenton Titans were enough to hold off the Wheeling Nailers, 4-3, on Friday night at WesBanco Arena.

Up 1-0 heading into the second stanza, Benoit Mondou helped Trenton push the lead to two goals on the power play at 5:23 when he deflected Bryan Miller's slapshot from the point across the goal line. The Titans made the score 3-0 in their favor midway through the period as Troy Riddle got behind the defense and forced Andy Franck to make a nice pad save before a crashing Mike Manley tapped in the rebound for his 6th of the year.

Vin Hellemeyer's first goal of the night got the Nailers on the board at 10:54, but Trenton went back up by three when a bouncing puck found Luis Tremblay in the slot, where he had all the time in the world to tuck the backhander past the outstretched leg pad of Franck.

Wheeling was able to pull back within one early in the third period when Sean Collins' pass down low hit a Titans stick and past Gregg Naumenko for a tally on the man-advantage. With the game in hand for the Titans, Hellemeyer picked up his second of the night with two seconds left in regulation to complete the scoring.

The Titans drew first blood at 14:24 of the first period as Jake Ortmeyer skated the puck into far corner of the Nailers' zone before finding Scott Bertoli alone atop the crease, where he roofed his 31st of the season past the glove of Franck.

Naumenko wins his fifth game in his last six starts, turning aside 39-of-42 shots. Trenton finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
