December 8, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - John Morlang tallied the game-tying marker in the third period, and then the game-winner in the shootout, as the Falcons upended the Steelheads 4-3 in front of 4,067 fans at Qwest Arena on Saturday night.
The Steelheads (7-8-7) are winless in three games, as they concluded their three-game series with the Falcons earning just one point. Meanwhile, the Falcons (11-6-3) leave Boise with six points and a five-game winning streak.
For the first time in the series the Steelheads got on the board first, as Taggart Desmet earned his eighth of the season at 11:04. Darrell Hay picked up the only helper on Desmet's third goal in the last six games.
Just 22 seconds later Greg Rallo, the Steelheads' leading scorer, took a Lance Galbraith feed just outside the Falcons' crease and he beat goaltender Kris Mayotte (26 saves) for his ninth of the campaign. Mark Bomersback added the second assist, his fourth point of the series.
At the 14:36 mark of the first period Falcons' forward Jarrett Konkle made the score 2-1. After Steelheads' defenseman Travis Wight turned the puck over behind his own net, Matt Stefanishion fed Konkle and his one-timer sailed over the glove Steve Silverthorn (32 saves).
The Steelheads led 2-1 at the first intermission and their 15, first period shots were two short of their entire total from Friday's game.
In the second period the two sides traded goals with Rallo potting his second of the night and 10th of the campaign at 5:30 of the frame. The power play goal was again set up by Galbraith who has registered five assists during his current four-game assist streak.
Midway through the stanza the Falcons responded with a tally by Stefanishion, who tipped Konkle's centering feed past Silverthorn for his fourth goal of the year.
Through 40 minutes of play the Steelheads held a 3-2 advantage and were out-shooting the Falcons 26-18.
Less than 30 seconds into the third period the Falcons evened the contest on a power play goal by Morlang. His second goal of the series saw the assists go to Brady Leisenring and Konkle. That goal eventually forced a scoreless overtime. In the shootout, Silverthorn denied Konkle and Leisenring, while Tyler Kindle and Morlang scored. Mayotte stopped Matt Craig, Rallo, Galbraith and Desmet, with Bomersback getting the home team's only goal.
The final shots favored the Falcons 36-29, with 16 of the visitors' chances coming in the third period. Both teams scored a power play goal in a combined nine opportunities.
The Steelheads will host the Las Vegas Wranglers next week in a three-game series beginning on Wednesday, December 12. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
