Columbia Inferno News Release

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The dogs, and their owners, on hand at the Carolina Coliseum for the otherwise successful inaugural Shandon-Wood Dog Bowl went home disappointed as the Columbia Inferno (9-10-3-2, 23 points) fell 3-2 to the visiting Florida Everblades (14-8-0-0, 28 points) on Saturday night. The Inferno pleased the fans, those with two legs and those with four, early in the game when Steve McJannet scored his first of the season 6:07 into the first period with a backhander over Justin Peters' glove shoulder. Tyler Doig and Liam Huculak added the assists. The Everblades tied the game 1-1 at 15:36 when defenseman Jordan Henry's shot from the slot beat Todd Ford's glove hand. McJannet, Huculak and Doig connected for a second time just 1:49 into the second period to give the Inferno a 2-1 lead when McJannet tipped Doig's cross-crease pass past Peters' right leg. Florida tied the game 2-2 less than a minute later when Jarret Lukin pushed a rebound past Ford. The Everblades took their only lead of the night 13:51 of the third period, but they were able to make it last. Henry notched his second of the night when he skated in to the high slot and ripped another wrister over Ford's outstretched glove. Ford finished with 27 saves on 30 shots, while Peters turned aside 32 of 34. The Inferno play their next five games on the road, but will return to the Carolina Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 28 to host the Charlotte Checkers for a special 1:05 matinee.
