Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta, GA - Augusta Lynx Head Coach Bob Ferguson has announced that the Portland Pirates have recalled rookie forwards Matt Christie and Ryan Dingle. Christie and Dingle are the top two rookie scorers so far for the Lynx this season. In addition, the Lynx have taken forward Jeremy Schenderling off the 30-day IR and is expected to be in the line-up tonight as the Lynx host the Mississippi SeaWolves at 7:05pm and the James Brown Arena.
Christie, who played for the Miami (OH) University Redhawks last season, lead all Lynx rookies in scoring before being called up Saturday. In 19 games with the Lynx Christie has record 18 points including six goals and 12 assists. Christie more recently scored the overtime goal against the Inferno back on December 1st, giving the Lynx their first win in Columbia this season. This marks the second time this season Christie has been recalled by the Pirates.
Dingle, who is in his first professional season after playing for the University of Denver Pioneers last year, was right behind Christie in rookie scoring for the Lynx with 17 points in 17 games, including six goals and 11 assists. Dingle has three game-winning goals for the Lynx so far this season, including the game-winner during a three-point night this past Tuesday as the Lynx defeated the Johnstown Chiefs, 8-2.
The Lynx also announced that forward Jeremy Schenderling has been activated off the 30-day IR and will be in the line-up Saturday against Mississippi. This is Schenderling's first action of the season since getting hurt after the first two regular season games of the year back on October 19th and 21st. Schenderling recorded three points in those first two games before being sidelined for the next 20 Lynx regular season games.
The Augusta Lynx return home on Saturday, December 8th against the Mississippi SeaWolves at 7:05pm at the James Brown Arena. Saturday is the annual Lynx Teddy Bear Toss! All fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game, and after the Lynx score their first goal, throw the teddy bear or stuffed animal onto the ice. The items will be collected and delivered later next week to children spending the holiday season at MCG Children's Medical Center and Doctor's Hospital.
