Fresno Falcons News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Fresno Falcons rallied to defeat the Idaho Steelheads 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday in front of 4,067 fans at Qwest Arena. With the win, Fresno extended its winning streak to five games, with each win coming by one goal.
Idaho dominated the first half of the opening period, gaining 13 shots in just over 11 minutes and opening a 2-0 lead. Taggart Desmet opened the scoring at 11:04, pushing the rebound of a Darrell Hay shot past goaltender Kris Mayotte.
The Steelheads doubled their lead just 22 seconds later. Lance Galbraith centered the puck in front for Greg Rallo who beat Mayotte for his ninth of the season, giving Idaho a 2-0 lead.
Fresno pulled within one at 14:21. Matt Stefanishion stole the puck behind the Idaho net, and centered in front for Jarrett Konkle, who blasted a one-timer past Steve Silverthorn for his ninth goal of the year.
Rallo scored his second of the night on a power play 5:30 into the second period to give Idaho a 3-1 lead. Galbraith hit Rallo in the left-wing circle, and he roofed a shot over Mayotte's shoulder on the short side.
The Falcons came back to again pull within one before the period ended. Stefanishion was able to get his stick on the puck at the Idaho crease, and stuffed a shot past Silverthorn cutting the Idaho lead to 3-2 heading into the final period.
Fresno tied the game with a power-play tally 21 seconds into the third period. Brady Leisenring moved the puck to John Morlang in the left-wing circle, and he beat Siverthorn with a one-timer for his second goal of the year.
That was all the scoring for regulation, despite the fact that Fresno out-shot Idaho 16-2 in the final period.
In the shootout, Tyler Kindle and Morlang scored for Fresno, while Mayotte stopped four of five Idaho shooters to extend the Falcons winning streak.
