Statement Regarding Hockey Game on October 23rd
October 28, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes and ENMAX Centre would like to address operational issues from the game on Saturday, October 23rd. These include ticket scanning problems, wait times for building entry, wait times in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge, along with payment issues at Top Shelf.
Both organizations are aware of all issues mentioned above and note it was a particularly challenging game this past Saturday. The ENMAX Centre and Lethbridge Hurricanes experienced technical difficulties prior to doors opening at 6:00PM and did not have consistent wireless internet in the venue. As a result, the ticket scanners were not working, causing a lineup at the entry doors, the Canadian Western Bank Lounge was backed up because orders were not able to be processed, and Top Shelf was not able to accept credit or debit transactions.
"We owe our fans and the new operator of the Canadian Western Bank Lounge upstairs an apology," said Hurricanes General Manager of Business Operations, Terry Huisman. "Fans who experienced long wait times for their food at the Canadian Western Bank Lounge should know it was not the fault of the new operator. Their front of house staff did what they were trained to do, unfortunately the kitchen was not receiving the orders because the Wi-Fi wasn't working".
The Lethbridge Hurricanes and ENMAX Centre strive to provide fans with a safe and exceptional experience every time they walk through the doors and acknowledge fans have not had the same level of experience as they have had in recent years.
"We apologize to Hurricanes fans who waited longer than normal to get into the building. We want fans to know the delay was not due to checking for vaccination records, but due to Wi-Fi not working so our ticket scanners weren't able to scan tickets and cards until it was back up and running," commented ENMAX Centre Building Manager, Kim Gallucci.
Both organizations hope these recent challenges are not deterrents for fans to attend events at the ENMAX Centre and want fans to know extra precautions have been taken to help address these issues for future games. In addition, extra health and safety precautions have been implemented at the ENMAX Centre to provide a safe space for community members to enjoy live entertainment.
These include a change to the ENMAX Centre's air filtration system to COVID-safe recommended filters, 80 hand sanitation stations around the facility, plastic barrier shields at concessions, increased enforcement of mask wearing, pre-vaccination cleaning protocols remain in place, including use of the electrostatic spray disinfection system to sanitize seats after each event. Additionally, beginning this weekend self-scanners will be available for use by fans, eliminating another touchpoint. QR codes for proof of vaccination will also be accepted beginning this weekend, along with all other current forms of vaccination records.
The Lethbridge Hurricanes host the Saskatoon Blades Friday night and the Winnipeg ICE Saturday night; both games start at 7:00pm. The Hurricanes will be wearing special jerseys to celebrate our championship Lethbridge Bulls who won the Western Canadian Baseball League this past summer.
These jerseys can be bid on via online auction that runs until Friday, November 5th at noon. Net proceeds will be donated to Lethbridge & Taber KidSport and Canadian Tire's Jump Start Program.
On Saturday, the B-93 Halloween Howler returns to the ENMAX Centre. Fans are encouraged to wear their costumes to the game, chance to win prizes for best adult and youth costumes! Fans can also trick-or-treat around the arena at Brimstone Grill in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge, at the concessions, at the 50/50 booths, at Guest Services, and at Top Shelf so be sure to bring your candy buckets to collect your goodies!
The door for both games open at 6:00pm and the Canadian Western Bank Lounge operated by Brimstone Grill will open at 5:00pm for pre-game food, access via the NE doors.
Tickets for both games are still available and can be purchased at www.enmaxcentre.ca, in person at the ENMAX Centre or Yates Memorial Centre Ticket Centre, or via the phone at 403-329-7328.
