The Story:

Tyson Kozak was the first star of the night after recording his second career three-point game as a Winterhawk.

Portland got itself in a 3-0 hole after 16 minutes of hockey and it was an uphill battle since. The Hawks didn't go down easy. Kozak scored his first goal of the season late in the first period to give the Hawks momentum heading into the second frame.

Reid Schaefer scored an in-tight goal to stretch the Seattle lead back to three and then the Winterhawks got to work. Cross Hanas and Tyson Kozak connected on a gorgeous 2-on-1 rush and stuck with the rebound to cut into the Thunderbirds lead. Less than a minute later, Dawson Pasternak scored his second goal of the season on a loose puck scramble in front of the net, only to have the goal waved off on video review. Instead of a 4-3 lead with just under half the game to go, Seattle potted another goal to swing the game to a 5-2 contest.

Gabe Klassen kept his lead in the team scoring department after netting his fourth of the year and Kozak added a nice, late goal from the slot to cap off his three point night.

Now the Hawks attention switches to a six-game road trip, including the team's first trip to Canada to play an out-of-division foe in 634 days.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:

"We scored four goals. That should be enough to win a game and we got 38 shots and they had 31 so we out shot them. We did a lot of good things and we obviously need to work a little more on our defensive zone (play). Seattle's got a very good team and they play very hard and it's a good challenge for us. Every one of these challenges that we have we have to learn from them and get better from them. We had some good games last weekend and we unfortunately lost the games, but I think we learned a lot. We're still growing as a team and getting harder to play against."
