Victoria Royals News Release

Victoria, B.C. - The Victoria Royals lost 4-0 to the Cougars tonight in the last of the five-game series.

The Royals entered the game without ten of their roster players and had called up defenceman Nate Misskey to join the blueline. The game was evenly matched for the first ten minutes of the game with only one penalty for the Royals. The Cougars scored first on a tip in from Carter MacAdams with six minutes left in the first. Victoria's Anthony Wilson had a breakaway seven seconds before the intermission, but Cougars goaltender Tyler Brennan made the save to end the first 1-0.

For the first half of the second, both teams were playing a strong defensive game with neither team able to get many shots on goal. In the latter half of the period, the Cougars intensified their offensive play and were ultimately able to get the second goal of the night from Blake Eastman at 11:10. With just over one minute left in the period, Anthony Wilson had another great opportunity to get the Royals on board, but Brennan made the save once more to keep it 2-0. Victoria would head into the third period with a man advantage on a roughing penalty from Carter MacAdams.

The Royals were still down 2-0 after five minutes of play before Anthony Wilson took a penalty for roughing. On the powerplay, the Cougars Blake Eastman increased the Cougars lead making it 3-0. The Cougars continued to apply pressure Royals goalie Tyler Palmer who made a nice save on a breakaway. But with a battle in front of the Royals net, Prince George scored on a rebound from Carter MacAdams giving the Cougars the 4-0 lead. The Royals had a 5 on 3 advantage for two of the three remaining minutes of the period but were unable to put anything past Brennan to end the game 4-0.

GM and Head Coach Dan Price shared the lessons from tonight's game and what the Royals can focus on when heading into Friday night's competition.

"Tonight was a tightly contested game and we had multiple chances to win it. We need to focus on finishing around the offensive net front and eliminating secondary chances around our net front. Both of those things are within our control," Price told media tonight. "We should have some players returning to the lineup this week so that will give us some fresh legs and energy and we'll have a goal of establishing momentum early in the first period on Friday."

On Friday, the Royals will be in Kamloops to face the Blazers at the Sandman Centre before they head to Kelowna on Saturday for a game against the Rockets. The next Royals home game will be on November 5th when the team plays Kamloops in the Royals Country Bash. On Saturday, November 6th, the club celebrates our Canadian Armed Forces and their families on Canadian Armed Forces Military Appreciation Night. For this game, the team will be honouring our military members and families with a special jersey to be auctioned off with proceeds going towards the Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre.

For tickets to the November 5th and 6th games, visit the Victoria Royals ticketing page or call the Select Your Ticket box office at 250-220-7777.
