Second Period Struggles Lead to Wednesday Loss in Saskatoon

The Saskatoon Blades scored four goals four minutes apart in the second period and went on to beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-2 Wednesday at SaskTel Centre.

Throughout the first period, both teams did a good job racing up the ice in transition, however, both teams did a good job defensively to limit the quality scoring chances.

Saskatoon 20-year-old defenceman Rhett Rhinehart opened the scoring five minutes into the opening period when he came off the right blue line and skated inside the circle.  The veteran defender snapped a shot into traffic that went past goalie Brett Mirwald to give the Blades a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes into the second period, Tristen Robins scored on a one-time for inside the left Warriors circle to give Saskatoon a 2-0 lead.

Just over a minute later, Kyle Crnkovic scored shorthanded to extend Saskatoon's lead.  Shortly after, and with the teams playing 4-on-4, Brandon Lisowsky scored to make it 4-0, and then at 6:10, Tristen Robins scored a power-play goal to finish off the Blades flurry.

Saskatoon's Tristen Robins scored his hat-trick goal at 8:26, which marked a five-goal in just over six-minute charge that gave them a commanding 6-0 lead through two periods.

Moose Jaw did not quit and battle hard in the third period.  They outshot the Blades 17-12 in the frame and were finally able to get on the scoreboard at 12:44 when Brayden Yager scored his team-leading 6th goal.

Just over a minute later, Atley Calvert stripped the puck away from the Blades along their left goal line.  He was able to set up defenceman Lucas Brenton in-between the circles where he scored his first goal of the season.

Unfortunately, that's where the Warriors' offence stopped as they fell 6-2 to their division rivals.

Moose Jaw finished 0-for-5 on the power-play while the Blades were 2-for-7.  Tristen Robins led the Blades with three goals and four points.

Coming up on the weekend, the Warriors only have one game on their schedule.  Friday night they battle the Medicine Hat Tigers at Mosaic Place, which marks their first game against a Central Division opponent.
