-SPIKES FINISH ROAD TRIP TONIGHT: The State College Spikes conclude a four-game road trip, their first extended excursion away from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in 2014, with the last of two games against the Batavia Muckdogs tonight at Dwyer Stadium. Batavia took two out of three games against the Spikes this past week at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes and Muckdogs are currently tied for first place in the New York-Penn League's Pinckney Division through the first ten games of 76 on the schedule this year. State College is 41-43 all-time against Batavia, with a 18-22 record in games played at Dwyer Stadium.
-LAST NIGHT: Alex De Leon set a State College Spikes record with three home runs in one game, and the Spikes set a new franchise record with six homers as a team in a 10-3 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs on Sunday evening at Dwyer Stadium. De Leon delivered a solo shot in the first inning, another solo bomb in the sixth, and a two-run homer to right field in the seventh to etch his name into the Spikes record books. The Kansas product bested a team record set by eight other players who hit two homers in one game, including teammate Rowan Wick, who had done so twice earlier this season. Jhohan Acevedo led off the game with a home run, while Danny Diekroeger and Wick also went deep. Acevedo also came up a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
-PERDOMO FACES FAMILIAR FOE TONIGHT: Right-hander Luis Perdomo makes his second start of the year for the Spikes tonight as he once again takes on the Muckdogs, this time on the road. Perdomo sparkled this past Tuesday against Batavia at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, going six shutout innings for the win. The San Cristobal, Dominican Republic native scattered six hits and struck out six in the effort. Perdomo started his 2014 season with Advanced-A Palm Beach, tossing three scoreless innings against Tampa, the Yankees' Florida State League affiliate, on May 17.
-MADER MAKES MUCKDOGS DEBUT: Left-hander Michael Mader makes the start for Batavia tonight in his professional debut. The 2014 supplemental third-round draft choice of the Marlins, Mader committed to Florida State but elected to play professionally after being drafted. Mader went 7-3 with a save and a 3.18 ERA for Chipola College in Florida this past spring. Mader struck out 74 batters over 73 2/3 innings. The southpaw is the first left-handed start the Spikes will face this season.
-WICK-ED WITH THE BAT : Rowan Wick has been on a historic tear through the beginning of the Spikes' season, becoming the only player in franchise history with five homers through the season's first five games. His seven homers are now the most for any Spike in the month of June, besting 2006 Spike Mark Hamilton, who had five. Wick is over halfway to David Washington's club record of 10 home runs in a single season, and has at least one homer in every Spikes series this year. The North Vancouver, BC native's 11 RBI are tied for third-most in the New York-Penn League, and his .344 average is tied for ninth in the loop.
-WRECKING THE WALLS : The Spikes are also doing historic damage at the plate as a team in 2014. Through 10 games, the Spikes have 18 home runs, nearly double the total of eight posted by second-place Jamestown. Wick's seven homers are also more than any other team in the New York-Penn League but Jamestown. The Spikes are also slugging .439 as a team, 51 points better than Jamestown. State College is also halfway to the club record for team home runs in a season,
-SPIKE MARKS: Jeff Barkley earned his first career win as a professional for the Spikes last night in relief, after his father, Jeff, Sr., began his pro career with Batavia in 1982...De Leon's three home runs last night came off of three different pitchers...State College has now won three straight games, and the 7-3 start is the best after 10 games in franchise history...The Spikes are slated to face three teams - Williamsport, Batavia and Jamestown - over the 2014 season's first 23 games
