
CT Tigers Pound the Spinners

Lowell, MA - The Connecticut Tigers (4-7) defeated the Lowell Spinner (5-6) by a score of 11-3 Monday night at LeLacheur Park. In his 13th professional start, Tigers RHP Chase Edwards (1-1) picked up his first career victory. Edwards pitched five innings while allowing two runs on five hits and struck out four batters.
The Tigers bats came to life in their 11-3 victory. As a team they had 11 runs on 15 hits in which nine of the hits were for extra bases. RF Michael Gerber (3-5) started in all with a first inning two-run triple that put Connecticut in front 2-0. Gerber had a three RBI performance in the game and fell a homerun shy of the cycle. DH Kasey Coffman (2-5) put together a three RBI performance that included a two-run triple and an RBI double. 2B Domingo Leyba (3-5) also added to the offensive attack with three hits including two doubles and three RBI's.
3B Joey Pankake (1-3) hit his first professional homerun in the fifth inning.
On a rehab assignment, Spinners RF Shane Victorino (0-3) flew out three times in his three plate appearances. Another major leaguer CF Andres Torres (0-4) had three fly outs and a strike out. Edwards faced Victorino and Torres six times in the game and together they were a combined 0-6 against him.
The Tigers and Lowell Spinners wrap up their two-game series tomorrow evening. Tigers RHP Fernando Perez (0-0, 3.00) is slated to face Lowell's RHP Heri Quevedo (0-1, 7.88). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com .
