Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY -After an impressive win Sunday afternoon, the Jamestown Jammers couldn't keep the momentum going Monday night, as they dropped the final game of their four game homestand against the Williamsport Crosscutters by the score of 8-5.

The Crosscutters jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first off Jamestown starter Frank Duncan. Right fielder Cord Sandberg started the inning off with a single up the middle. That was then followed by left fielder Jiandido Tromp singling to right field, and an error by Jamestown right fielder Michael Suchy allowed Sandberg to head to third. Sandberg would then score on an RBI groundout by center fielder Aaron Brown. First basemen Rhys Hoskins would then be hit by a pitch, and designated hitter Mike Shortall would triple in Tromp and Hoskins to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Crosscutters.

Jamestown would answer back with one run in the bottom of the inning. Center fielder Carl Anderson would start the inning with a single, and then steal second base. Left fielder Jordan Luplow would then single to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Catcher Taylor Gushue would then hit a sacrifice fly, which would score Anderson.

The Jammers would creep closer with another run in the bottom of the second. Third Basemen Chase Simpson would lead off with a single. Simpson would then move to second on a sac bunt by first basemen David Andriese. Shortstop Erik Forgione would then hit a ground ball which would be misfielded by Williamsport shortstop Emmanuel Marrero, allowing Simpson to cross the plate.

Williamsport would add to their lead in the top of the third with a solo home run by Brown, which was his first home run of the season for the Crosscutters to make the score 4-2.

That would remain the score until the top of the eighth, when the Crosscutters would add three more runs off Jammer reliever Eric Dorsch on four hits including a double by second basemen Robinson Torres.

Even after being down 7-2, the Jammers showed that they still had some fight left in them. In the bottom of the eighth, catcher Deybi Garcia (who replaced Gushue in the top of the fourth inning) singled, then right fielder Michael Suchy would single, and they would both be driven in on a 3-run home run off the bat of designated hitter Kevin Krause. It was Krause's second home run in as many games for the Jammers, and it would pull the Jammers within 7-5.

Williamsport would tally their final run in the top of the ninth off Jamestown reliever Jared Lakind after a double by Hernandez, and an RBI single by catcher Deivi Grullon.

Unfortunately, the Jammers couldn't complete the comeback in the ninth, and would end up falling to the Crosscutters in the series finale. Anderson (3), Luplow (2), Suchy (2), and Andreise (2) all collected multiple hits for the Jammers.

The Jammers now hit the road for a six game road trip that will start Tuesday in State College. Starting off the road trip for Jamestown will be right-handed pitcher Marek Minarik. He will be opposed by State College starter Will Anderson. Jamestown will be back in action at Diethrick Park Tuesday, July 1st against Williamsport, which will be the first $1.50 night of the season.
