1912 World Series Trophy to Join 2004, 2007 and 2013 Red Sox Trophies at Centennial Field
June 23, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLINGTON, VT --- In addition to the three most recent Boston Red Sox World Series trophies from 2004, 2007 and 2013, the Vermont Lake Monsters are happy to announce that the 1912 Red Sox World Series trophy will also be on display at historic Centennial Field this upcoming Sunday, June 29th when the Lake Monsters host the Boston-affiliated Lowell Spinners at 5:05 pm on New England Ford Dealers Night.
Boston won the 1912 World Series four games to three (with one tie) against the New York Giants, the second of eight World Series Championships for the Red Sox all-time. The sterling silver trophy was presented to Boston manager Jake Stahl following the clinching victory, but is now privately owned.
"We could not be more excited to have not just the three recent Red Sox World Series trophies, but the 1912 trophy that is not normally available for public viewing," Lake Monsters General Manager Nate Cloutier said. "This is a rare opportunity for all baseball fans to see a part of the Red Sox history."
The 1912 Red Sox have a special connection to Vermont and Centennial Field as former University of Vermont baseball players Larry Gardner and Ray Collins were members of the World Series Champions. Gardner clinched the championship with a series-ending sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning that gave Boston a 3-2 victory.
All four trophies will be displayed on the main concourse at Centennial Field on June 29th beginning when the gates open at 4:00 pm and will be available for viewing until 6:00 pm.
Tickets for the game can be purchased 24/7 through the team website at www.vermontlakemonsters.com, where fans can pick their seats and print their tickets to the game. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Centennial Field box office or by phone (655-6611) from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm this week.
