-SPIKES CONTINUE HOMESTAND AGAINST LAKE MONSTERS: After last night's tough loss, the Spikes continue their 10th Season as they take on the Vermont Lake Monsters in the middle game of a three-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College is nearly at the halfway mark of the 2015 season, and stands just a game-and-a-half out of first place in the NYPL Wild Card race. The series against Vermont is the first half of a six-game homestand for the Spikes, who welcome Lowell (Red Sox affiliate) to town for the weekened. State College is 14-12 all-time against Vermont, with a 9-4 record against the Lake Monsters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes overcame a 7-1 deficit to force extra innings, but lost to the Vermont Lake Monsters, 9-7, in 10 frames on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. A seven-run Vermont fifth, capped by a Seth Brown grand slam, put the Spikes behind. However, State College put together its own big inning in the eighth. Jhohan Acevedo got it going with a single, then came in to score on a Thomas Spitz single. With two outs, the Spikes then received a Casey Grayson walk and back-to-back singles from Josh Swirchak and Cole Lankford to edge within 7-4. Jose Godoy drove in another run with a single, and R.J. Dennard's double made it a 7-6 game. In the ninth, the Spikes tied the game when Swirchak singled to left to bring in Pritchard. However, Brett Siddall then brought in the winning runs for the Lake Monsters with a two-out, two-run double to center in the tenth.

-MARTINEZ MAKES START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets the ball for State College tonight. Martinez went 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision at Aberdeen in his last outing on Thursday. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native allowed no runs through four innings, but yielded a total of four runs, two of them earned, in the fifth. Martinez rang up a streak of 16 straight innings without allowing an earned run from June 26 through July 10. The righty has allowed opposing leadoff hitters just a .200 batting average and .250 on-base percentage this year.

-MASSAD HEADED TO HILL FOR LAKE MONSTERS: Right-hander Jon Massad makes his seventh start and eighth appearance of the year for Vermont this evening. Massad took the loss against Auburn on Thursday in his last outing. The Shrewsbury, MA native yielded five runs, four of them earned, on seven hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings. Massad has allowed five home runs this year, including three in one game at Tri-City on July 1. However, the righty has also struck out 28 batters while walking only eight. Massad made 21 appearances out of the bullpen for Vermont last year.

-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson is still near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product is third in the NYPL in batting average with a .331 mark, just two points off the lead. Grayson's .433 on-base percentage is also second in the league, and he occupies spots in the NYPL's top five in hits (T-4th, 39), runs batted in (5th, 22) and walks (T-2nd, 22). The Cypress, TX native has also reached base in every home game he has played this season, an 18-game string.

-PINA SURGING AT THE PLATE: Leobaldo Pina's four-hit game was his second of the season, following the quartet of knocks he produced against Tri-City on July 15, and increased his average from .279 to .299 over the weekend. Pina is now third in the league with 41 hits, and is hitting .421 with runners in scoring position and two outs.
