July 29, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Staten Island Yankees News Release

After dropping another close contest to the Batavia Muckdogs (13-24) on Tuesday, the Staten Island Yankees (19-18) took their upstate foe into extras, losing their fifth straight game, 3-2.

Batavia got on the board early, scratching a run across in the first inning on Staten Island starter Kolton Mahoney. Taylor Munden singled to right field then advanced to second on a passed ball by Yankees catcher Jake Hernandez. Stone Garrett put the first run on the board, driving Munden in with a single center field for a 1-0 lead.

The Baby Bombers evened the score in the third inning. After back-to-back force ground outs, Jeff Hendrix found himself on first base then advanced as Kyle Holder was hit by a pitch. Thairo Estrada gave Staten Island their first run on the game, singling to right field to score Hendrix.

The Yankees took the lead in the sixth inning. Ryan Krill and Hernandez collected back-to-back singles then Krill crossed the plate on a Jhalan Jackson sacrifice fly to center field, putting the home team up, 2-1.

Just as it appeared that Staten Island would claim the victory, Batavia got some help from the Yankees' defense. Stone Garrett singled then stole second base to get things started. With two outs, Eric Fisher hit a grounder to Estrada at second, but Estrada bobbled the ball, allowing Fisher to reach base and Garrett to score on heads-up base running.

Neither team was able to plate a run in the ninth innings, sending the game into extra innings.

Josh Roeder (L, 1-1) took the mound for Staten Island in the tenth inning, and Batavia took over from there. Munden singled to center then Garrett reached on an error by third baseman Drew Bridges, allowing Munden and Garrett both to reach scoring position. The Muckdogs scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly out by Brad Haynal to center field, giving Batavia the winning score of 3-2 in ten innings.

Staten Island looks to end their five-game losing streak on Thursday as the two teams face off again at 7 p.m. at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
