Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, NY - July 29, 2015 - Returning to Brooklyn with a glorious homecoming, the Cyclones took a 6-3 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades with half of the runs scored by the Boys of Summer batted in on home runs. Tucker Tharp sent his first career home run soaring over the left field wall at MCU Park, while Jeff Diehl crushed his fourth dinger of the season beyond the fence. Southpaw Kevin Canelon takes his third win of the season (3-2) and right-hander Alex Palsha collects his league-leading eighth save of the season.
The Cyclones offense wasted no time as Brooklyn began the first inning with a pair of singles from Tharp and Vinny Siena. Michael Bernal then sent a triple to center field that brought Tharp and Siena home. Bernal would then score on a ground out from David Thompson as the Cyclones took a 3-0 lead heading into the second.
Tharp led off the fifth in renowned fashion with a solo home to further Brooklyn's lead to 4-0. The Renegades notched their first run in the top of the sixth on a close call at home plate. The threat began when Canelon walked Hudson Valley's lead off batter. A single followed and a sacrifice fly would get the Renegades on the board. The then Cyclones countered as Diehl hit a bomb two-run home run in the eighth to further Brooklyn's lead to 6-1.
Luis Mateo, Carlos Valdez, and Ruben Reyes each came in from the 'Clones bullpen after 6.0 innings of work from Canelon. Reyes got into a jam during the ninth after walking three consecutive batters. Brooklyn's ace closer Palsha then came in from the stretch with the bases loaded and two outs. A ground out and a single would score two runs for the Renegades but Palsha struck out the next batter to eliminate Hudson Valley's threat.
Brooklyn looks to take the rubber game tomorrow night as they venture up to Hudson Valley. Tyler Badamo (1-4) takes the mound in his eighth start of the season. The Cyclones return to MCU Park Friday night to take on the Batavia Muckdogs. It will also be FDNY Night at the ballpark and all fans are invited to enjoy a post-game fireworks show. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM. Tickets start at just $10 and are available for purchase by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting the MCU Park box office, or right here at BrooklynCyclones.com.
