-SPIKES START ROAD TRIP AGAINST MUCKDOGS: The Spikes continue their 10th Season tonight as they begin a three-game series at the Batavia Muckdogs. The matchup at Dwyer Stadium also starts a six-game road swing for the Spikes as they visit Batavia and West Virginia in Pinckney Division play. State College took two of the first three meetings this season against the Muckdogs from July 18-20, all at Medlar FIeld at Lubrano Park. The Spikes are now one of seven teams within a game-and-a-half of the New York-Penn League Wild Card lead. All-time, State College holds a 47-46 edge against Batavia, with the Muckdogs taking 23 of the 44 meetings at Dwyer Stadium.
-LAST GAME: Jhohan Acevedo keyed a big first inning with a three-run double, and the State College Spikes surged to a 6-3 win over the Lowell Spinners on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Acevedo's bases-loaded, two-out line drive down the left-field line was the crowning shot in a four-run first for the Spikes. Casey Grayson had begun the scoring with an RBI groundout. State College added another run in the second as Grayson brought in Mike Pritchard with a groundout to make it 5-0. Lowell would get a bases-loaded double from Kyri Washington scoring three runs in the fourth, but that would be the closest Lowell got as the Spikes added a run in the seventh. Ian McKinney earned the win for State College with five innings of work in which he yielded three runs on five hits and three walks. McKinney also recorded seven strikeouts as the Spikes staff put up a total of 35 strikeouts over the three-game series against Lowell.
-RODRIGUEZ GETS THE START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Jorge Rodriguez gets the ball for State College tonight. Rodriguez has been a road warrior for the Spikes this season, posting a 2-0 record with a 0.43 earned run average in four outings away from home. The San Cristobal, Dominican Republic saw a 13-inning scoreless streak end in his last start at home against Vermont, but has not allowed a run in his last 16 frames on the road. Rodriguez has also limited batters to a .205 average against him, with righties batting just .180.
-MUCKDOGS TURN TO NEUBECK: After originally scheduled starter Gabriel Castellanos earned promotion to Single-A Greensboro today, Batavia will send right-hander Travis Neubeck to the hill tonight. Neubeck has made seven appearances out of the bullpen this season, with each of his last three outings lasting at least three innings. The Hugo, MN native was drafted in the seventh round by the Marlins this year out of Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, where he went 7-2 with a 3.04 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 69 innings this spring.
-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson is still near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product is back at the top of the NYPL batting race with a .336 average. Grayson's .432 on-base percentage is also first in the league, and he occupies spots in the NYPL's top five in hits (T-1st, 46), runs batted in (4th, 26) and walks (T-2nd, 24). The Cypress, TX native has also reached base in every home game he has played this season, a 23-game string.
-SPIKES PINK CAMO JERSEYS SUPPORT FIGHT: The Spikes' special Pink Camouflage Jerseys, which they wore last night for Paint the Park Pink Night, presented by Mount Nittany Health, helped raised over $5,000 for the Breast Care Center at Mount Nittany Medical Center through The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center. The annual Paint the Park Pink events have now raised over $65,000 for the fight against breast cancer.
-SPIKE MARKS: Jhohan Acevedo became the seventh Spikes player with two triples in the same game on Saturday...Danny Martin was the last to accomplish the feat on June 21 of this year...Ian McKinney earned promotion to Single-A Peoria today after earning the win last night...McKinney went 4-2 with a 2.76 ERA in eight starts.
