-SPIKES TAKE ON CROSSCUTTERS IN PINCKNEY CLASH: The State College Spikes, who still hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race by 1 1/2 games over West Virginia, continue their 10th Season this evening with the middle game of a three-game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. 6 1/2 games separate the two teams in the Pinckney Division standings, with the Crosscutters currently holding the best record in the NYPL. State College is 1-5 against Williamsport this year, with an 0-2 record on the road so far against the Crosscutters. All-time, the Spikes are 57-57 against the 'Cutters, with a 25-31 mark in Williamsport.

-LAST GAME: A three-run first inning that included a two-run Jose Pujols home run was the difference in the game as the State College Spikes fell to the Williamsport Crosscutters, 4-1, on Monday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. Williamsport's opening frame started when Zach Coppola reached on a two-base error and scored on Josh Tobias's single. Pujols then slugged a pitch to left field for his second homer of the year, giving the Crosscutters a 3-0 lead. Brendon Hayden added another run for Williamsport with a one-out double to plate Tobias after he had reached on a wild third strike. Ronnierd Garcia knocked in the lone run for State College with a fifth-inning single as the Spikes outhit the Crosscutters on the night, 7-4. Craig Aikin went 2-for-4 as the only State College player with multiple hits. State College starter Josh Wirsu settled down after the rough first inning, retiring 12 of the next 13 batters he faced after the home run.

-EVANS GETS BALL FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: State College left-hander Jacob Evans gets his fourth start and 14th overall appearance of the season tonight. Evans tossed five innings to begin a shutout win over Williamsport in his last start on Wednesday, needing just 55 pitches to get through the outing. The Oklahoma product is 2-0 and has yet to allow an earned run over 15 innings as a starter. Overall, Evans has struck out 27 batters and walked just four as a professional, and is limiting left-handed hitters to just a .114 average.

-'CUTTERS GO WITH GILBERT ON HILL: Williamsport left-hander Tyler Gilbert will make his eighth start and 10th overall appearance of the year for the Crosscutters tonight. Gilbert also opposed Evans last Wednesday in State College, and yielded three runs on seven hits over four innings in the loss. The southpaw also struck out just two batters after whiffing seven in each of the two starts preceding the outing. Gilbert has posted a 2.28 road ERA this season, but is 0-2 with a 4.38 ERA over three home appearances. The USC product has held righties to a .237 average this year, with lefties hitting .302.

-SPIKES PRODUCE, BUT SOUTH FALLS IN ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes representatives Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Casey Grayson, Juan Perez and Landon Beck all made contributions to the South in the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, but the North won the annual showcase of baseball's future stars, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. Pina, who doubled, joined Pritchard, who scored a run, with hits in the game.

-MARTIN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: Spikes Athletic Trainer Dan Martin has been named the New York-Penn League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League, with an additional award is given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year. Martin is now eligible for the Minor League Trainer of the Year award as well, which will be given at the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.

-SPIKE MARKS: Pedro Echemendia is tied for second in the NYPL with 21 appearances, and is fourth in saves with nine...Casey Grayson is back to first in the NYPL in on-base percentage at .425, third in batting average at .315, tied for second in hits with 63, and first in walks with 39...Mike Pritchard is tied for second in the NYPL with 37 runs scored...Williamsport is first in the league with a .261 team batting average, and State College is fourth at .257...The Crosscutters have 138 extra-base hits this year (30 homers), and the Spikes have 137 (13 homers)
