Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/25/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Dutchess Stadium.

Neither team scored a run through the first six innings as Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Benton Moss and Brooklyn's starting pitcher Kevin Canelon (5-4) combined to allow just six hits.

Brooklyn broke the deadlock in the top of the seventh inning as second baseman Vinny Siena led off the frame with a single and stole second base. With two outs, catcher Jose Garcia singled to left field and brought home Siena, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

After Canelon held the Renegades scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cyclones tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Left fielder Hengelbert Rojas singled to lead off the inning and scored when third baseman Branden Kaupe reached on a fielding error. The score become 3-0 as right fielder Jeff Diehl drove in Kaupe on a RBI double.

Canelon earned the win for Brooklyn as he tossed eight scoreless innings in his start while allowing one hit and struck out 10. Alex Palsha came in to relieve Canelon in the bottom of the ninth inning and struck out two batters in his inning of work to pick up his 13th save of the season.

Moss took the no-decision after throwing six shutout innings for Hudson Valley. He allowed five hits and walked none while striking out nine batters. Tyler Brashears (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs and two earned runs in two innings of work.

With the result, the Renegades saw their record fall to 31-31 while Brooklyn improved their record to 30-32.

Notes: The nine strikeouts by Benton Moss is a single-game high for a Hudson Valley pitcher in 2015 as he bested his eight strikeouts he recorded on August 7th against Staten Island. Moss has now recorded five straight starts where he has thrown five-plus innings and gave up one or less earned runs.

Hudson Valley wraps up the three-game series against Brooklyn on Thursday, August 26th with first pitch at 7:00pm. The Renegades return to Wappingers Falls to host the Staten Island Yankees on Thursday, August 26th at 7:05pm. Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium is "Augtoberfest Night."
